OBJECTIVE C1.2
The objective of this course is to develop the four language skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking in order that the student can achieve a C1 level in English.

READING
Students will be able to understand and work with authentic texts in different styles on a wide range of subjects as well as more complex articles, picking out nuances of meaning /opinion. They will be able to be able to read effectively enough to cope with an academic course in English.
LISTENING
Students will be able to understand a wide range of language and arguments as expressed in serious newspapers as well as extract the main elements of meaning from radio and TV programmes, video and film. They will be able to follow presentations and extract the main ideas as well as the specific idea.
WRITING
Students will be able to revise drafts, organise and link a text logically and to write reports, articles and reviews, both formal and informal letters/emails, effectively communicating the required message.
SPEAKING
Students will be able to give oral presentations on material and research from their own field, deal with unpredictable questions and contribute effectively in seminars. They will be able to discuss a wide range of topics including abstract ideas with a good degree of fluency and spontaneity and little searching for language, with a range of expression as well as speak intelligibly using stress and pronunciation that enhances understanding.
METHODOLOGY
The classes follow a communicative approach and the student is expected to participate actively and undertake between 2 and 4 hours a week of complementary study.
EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION
Students will be evaluated in the final week of the course in one final examination in which the four skills will be evaluated.
To receive a certificate for the course students must pass this final exam. During the course there will be other tests which will not be part of the final evaluation.
ATTENDANCE
You are recommended to attend a minimum of 80% of the classes. Students can sit the final exam regardless of the number of classes they have attended.
