The first small essay will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people. 20 Short essay 2 The second small essay is based on the collection and commentary of statistical data on the levels of poverty and deprivation as well as the mechanisms of social protection in Europe. The second small essay will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people. 20 Text commentary The text commentary will consist of the summary of the compulsory reading texts. The text commentary will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people. 10
The course runs on a system of continuous assessment. Students must make a text commentary, two small essays and a final exam. The final exam is worth 50% of the grade for the course, every small essay is worth 20% of the grade for the course and text commentary is worth the remaining 10%. The two small essays are based on the collection and commentary of statistical data on recent developments in the international economy and on the levels of poverty and deprivation as well as the mechanisms of social protection in Europe. There will be an introductory session class for each of these essays, focusing on the databases to be used to write the essay. The small essays will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people. The text commentary will consist of the summary of the compulsory reading texts. The text commentary will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people. The final exam will assess the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. There is no pass mark for any of the assessment items (final exam, small essays and text commentary), but the student must get a minimum of 5 out of 10 to pass the course. If the student does not pass the course or cannot continue with the continuous assessment system, they are entitled to do a re-sit exam. This exam will include all course material (theory, practice and readings). The exam will be worth 100% of the mark of the subject. Students who pass the course will not be able to improve his/her grade in the re-sit exam.
